Welcome Autumn With a Little Bit of Fun from From My Carolina Home

Finally, we can welcome Autumn this week.  I loved the cooler temperatures this past weekend!  It was just the right time to show a few autumn inspired ideas for a bit of fun to lighten our lives seemed appropriate.  So often now, we have to make a effort to keep our spirits up and find a way to have fun while staying home.  Here are a few of my ideas, some from past projects.  This little Pumpkin Leaf Candle Mat was from Autumn Jubilee 2016.  Put it on the kitchen counter with a wonderful Autumn Wreath scented candle (if you ...

Music on Tuesday from Not Afraid of Color

Happy Birthday Louis Armstrong...

I learned this by reading a short bio on
The Writer's Almanac...  (link: Listen to the audio  )

born very poor in New Orleans, put in the colored waif's home at age 11 where he was given a trumpet. That one gift led to a lifetime of contribution to the world.

I was struck by Louis Armstrong quote here:
"“Seems to me it ain’t the world that’s so bad but what we’re doing to it, and all I’m saying is: see what a wonderful ...

Sewing Saturday and just for fun.... from Not Afraid of Color

not a lot of sewing done this week... a lot of painting happened, a lot of online watching of classes happened, knitting of socks happened, some writing happened but at least I finished up the RSC dark green scrap blocks for May. They should look good with the other colors.
 Improv log cabins
Surprisingly I enjoyed all the things I made, and the one still in progress, ready to be quilted.
The design wall was homey and nature-like all month.

paintings were shown yesterday, scroll down to see them, here's one

Now for a bit of fun...

question of the day

If you were a light source what would you be?

Let's see... I think I might be a candle, maybe a pillar candle with a couple wicks. Light, gentle light in the darkness. Not trying to light the whole room, but able to light it's section. It flickers so it's always moving and different, it waxes and wanes. There is warmth to it's tone, when you look closely it's made of different layers and colors.

I might want to be the moon, I've ...

Keeping Busy, but not always productive :) from Bayou Quilts

I have been on another attempt to straighten and organize my sewing and craft stuff.  I've gone through my fabric stash and filled a box for Goodwill.  Added some ancient Quilting Arts magazines and even some of my beloved Prims magazines.   Started another box and filled it with more fabric and other miscellaneous items that were intended for various projects and will never be used again.  (Sometimes items move back and forth from the donate to the keep pile and back again.)

Have to wrangle the chaos upstairs before I can play again.

Favorite books so far this month ...

Happy New Year! And my year in review by the numbers! from L&R Designs Quilting

Wow, 2020! Looking back at 2019, I’m amazed that I got any quilting or sewing done at all! It was my year of travel and adventures. My excursions took me to wintery Nisswa MN, sunny Anna Marie Island FL, amazing Santa Fe NM, incredible Zdar Nad Sazavou Czech Republic and historic Mackinac Island Michigan! And if you add in working at quilt shows, family fun vacations and shopping trips, I left my home state 11 times last year! I will do my very best to keep it up this year!!

On the quilting front, I was happily surprised that ...

Coloring Placemats! from L&R Designs Quilting

After making one reusable coloring book with fabric, which was very labor intensive and costly to make ( I was planning to make several for the littles in my family) I decided to make Coloring Placemats instead!

Use washable markers to color the placemats!

Then toss them in the washer and start all over again!

All clean after washing!

They are a big hit. The kids pick their favorite designs and when they spill on them, the milk stays on the placemat instead of running off like on a vinyl one. So, the request was to make more, big surprise, so ...
